The rose quartz beads are 10mm and strung on a double strand of woven silk and polyester Chinese knotting string for strength and durability. It’s just natural for me, then, to be drawn to pink gemstones, among which is rose quartz. Rose quartz contains mineral silicate inclusions, and those inclusions are what give rose quartz its soft pink color. Interestingly, these mineral inclusions formed in lines, or fibers, that aligned in the direction that the quartz crystal grew. If you were to look at a specimen of rose quartz under a powerful microscope, you would see pinkish fibers of borosilicate minerals running in parallel lines through the stone. The vast majority of rose quartz is therefore opaque (not transparent), but rarer rose quartz specimens can be more translucent and can even display “stars” when formed into spheres. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBesides the facts that rose quartz is a gemstone that occurs in my favorite color and that I find its aligned borosilicate inclusions an interesting characteristic, I appreciate rose quartz for its varying shades of pink. While most rose quartz is light pink, some truly beautiful rose quartz specimens that are  pinkish-purple to mauve have come from mines in Madagascar. Due to their comparative scarcity they are several times more expensive and valuable than Brazilian rose quartz.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe lesson I take away from rose quartz is that all specimens of it are undeniably beautiful irrespective of their shade of pink. I feel the same about people as I do about rose quartz - that no matter their skin color, no matter where on this planet they were born, no matter their nationality or religion - ALL people are beautiful! I can even find something beautiful about an individual who behaves in an ugly manner or who speaks with a cruel tongue, because I choose to see what is good about them rather than what is “bad” or “wrong”. It’s not always easy, and I don’t look for a positive because I’m nobler or kinder than the next guy; rather, I find something beautiful about them because I know that God’s love for them is equal to the love He has for me! I am FAR from perfect, so I have no business viewing others through critical eyes! When I internationally envision myself standing on equal ground with everybody else , it’s much easier for me to not look down on others! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003elnformation About This Gemstone:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e  Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals on earth. If you pick up a handful of sand on the beach or a handful of dirt in your front yard, it’s almost a given that it will contain a large amount of tiny quartz granules. Quartz occurs in a host of colors in addition to pink, and clear quartz crystals that contain other minerals - and sometimes even a trapped pocket of water with a tiny air bubble or two! - are quite valuable as gemstones and as collectors’ specimens.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMost rose quartz comes from Brazil, where  mines produce consistently well-formed crystals that are shaped into beads, decorative spheres and carvings. Smaller deposits of rose quartz have been found in India and Sri Lanka, and even on the island of Madagascar! Rose quartz ranks at 7 on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness, making it a hardy mineral that is good for use in jewelry items. It is additionally a good choice for stone carvers and jewelers because it has no cleavage, which is an internal plane or planes within a stone that allows it to break in a smooth line when struck against a harder material (as opposed to breaking or cracking in a random jagged manner). Having no cleavage, it’s not going to crack or split while it’s being carved or set into jewelry, making it a very forgiving stone to work with   for beginner stone carvers and apprentice stone setters!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFun facts:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e Rose quartz can grow into very large crystals weighing hundreds of carats! Such crystals are a favorite of stone carvers, who shape the crystals into animals, geometric shapes and decorative ornaments that showcase this mineral’s pretty pink color. “Rose quartz” is the familiar name for this mineral, but mineralogists haven’t given it an agreed-upon mineral name like many other minerals have (moonstone’s mineral name is adularia, Finnish labradorite’s mineral name is spectrolite, crystallized hydrated calcium sulfate is called selenite, etc.). Because it contains a borosilicate material that isn’t seen in other minerals, mineralogists don’t know quite what to call it!
